Summary

I started my work as a consultant physician in Adan Hospital. My duties there in this position largely included clinical diagnostic and management work related to internal medicine. Adan Hospital is a 600-bedded referral teaching hospital including a 120-bedded speciality unit of General Medicine and Cardiology. Its diagnostic Laboratory and Radiology Departments are provided with modern updated equipment including all the latest automated technology. We have also a large quantum emergency medical casualty, a ten bedded ICU and an eight bedded CCU.

Apart from independent consultative service to my own unit, I was also responsible for providing consultation for medical problems of patients admitted in other disciplines including general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, ENT, Obstetric & Gynaecology and ophthalmology. In addition, I was required to provide consultative service throughout the year as in charge of medical patients in ICU.

Apart from the above general medical service, I have obtained special training in echocardiography and I was responsible for providing the diagnostic service as one of the two units available in cardiology service. Moreover, I was seconded to participate in teaching medical students in the Kuwait Faculty of Medicine in the period 1993-1997.

At present, I work as a consultant physician in Masterton Hospital which setup is bigger than Ashburton Hospital and Grey Hospital. My duties here are much the same as those in Adan, Grey and Ashburton Hospitals. Masterton Hospital is a 90-bedded hospital. We have 45 acute medical and surgical beds together with 7 high dependency beds (CCU & ICU). I have to look after medical patients admitted under my care from the Accident and Emergency Department while in hospital and follow them up as outpatients if required. When on duty, I have to give consultation service for patients in the other disciplines. I have to look after my patients who need HDU (hi dependency unit ICU or CCU) as well while in the HDU unit as well.

In addition, I have two out patient clinics, one echocardiography clinic and one stress ECG clinic per week. I have to participate also in teaching and training the junior medical staff, teaching medical students and to conduct and participate in the research work, teaching and scientific meetings in Masterton hospital.

I used to participate in the trials as a sub-investigator since I started with Ashburton hospital. Since 22nd of November 2000 I took the role of principal investigator in all the international multi-centre trials done in Ashburton Hospital until I left to Masterton.
